Making Cities And Human Settlements Inclusive Safe Resilient And Sustainable

The Future of Sustainable Cities and Communities

Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable

By 2030, ensure access for all to adequate, safe, and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums.

The world is urbanizing at an unprecedented rate. By 2050, two-thirds of the world's population will live in cities. This rapid urbanization is putting a strain on cities' resources, infrastructure, and services. As a result, many cities are facing challenges such as poverty, inequality, crime, and environmental degradation. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. SDG 11 is focused on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. This goal recognizes that cities are essential for sustainable development and that they must be planned and managed in a way that promotes economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection.

There are many ways to achieve SDG 11. Some of the most important include:

  • Investing in affordable housing and basic services
  • Promoting sustainable urban planning and design
  • Reducing poverty and inequality
  • Improving public transportation
  • Investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • Protecting the environment

Achieving SDG 11 will not be easy. It will require a concerted effort from governments, businesses, and civil society. However, it is essential that we work together to make our cities more sustainable and livable. By doing so, we can create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.
